Back to School

Back to Brown this Saturday!! (Above is a picture of the 1938 Brown tennis club. Why were guys hotter then? But what's up with the one guy in a suit...? Hey man.) Three hours in the car means a great soundtrack is in order:

Perfectly melodic without compromising atmospheric charm
Air France - It Feels Good to Be Around You

This is my favorite song in the last two years. WOW BIG CLAIM.
Wild at Heart - Get Related

When I listen to this song I feel like I'm on a trotting horse. Just me?
Urban Cone - Urban Photograph

三番おねがいします

Been watching movies like a fiend (Godard suck my cock ugh) so I thought I'd bring you the third installment of my favorite music video list. There are others I forgot that I will get up on here eventually. Whatever. I need to do some more RottenTomato-ing.

El Guincho - Bombay
Guns! Boobs! Is that guy fucking a vacuum??

Sweet Freedom

DONE WITH WERK! It was fun, but I'm so happy I can relax. Here are some victory tunes:

Jamiroquai - Canned Heat (Calvin Harris Remix)
Neon Indian - Polish Girl
The Cool Kids - Swimsuits
Mean Lady - Far Away
Theophilus London - Why Even Try (RAC Remix)
Dirty Gold - California Sunrise

Oshe-YAY-ga

I'm back from Osheaga, and it was gr8. I'm sunburned as shit, my feet have molded into the shape of my music-festival-wedges, and I needed an entire day of sleep to recover. BUT IT WAS GR8! Ellie (see above) looked beautiful; why do ppl say she's ugly? Psh. Not true.

This little lady wore a vampire cape and painted a canvas picture of a voluptuous ass.
Janelle Monae - Wondaland

Even in a shapeless white sheet she was fucking lithe and beautiful.
Oh Land - White Knights

Her voice amazingly sounds like it does in the songs. Didn't expect it.
Ellie Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix)

More:
White Lies - To Lose My Life
Ratatat - El Pico
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Young Adult Friction

I could explain why I picked these songs. Instead I will tell you that it's 11:55, I'm tired as fuck, I have to write a paper, and these songs are an attempted pick-me-up.

Part Deux

I literally just read the entire wikipedia page for "Music Video." It was way more confusing than I had hoped, but it seems that Devo and Marilyn Monroe were important in some way. It's been a long day of internshipping. Weirdly met Jason Derulo. Not that I really care but it was weird. Apparently my boss almost got in a fight with Justin Bieber; he was carrying around a video camera filming Biebz from the back when they had a BOWLw/BIEBER event (lol) and the small boy wonder turned around, slapped the camera to the floor, and looked my boss up and down in a "come at me bro" action. Do you like that I used "come at me bro" twice in two posts? Great.

The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar
Strangely haunting and obviously clever, plus a great song

MTV isn't Music Television

OK, FINE! Jersey shore is entertaining. I agree with you. I like when Snooki eats pickles and when Ronny yells "Come at me bro" and when Vinny is adorable. But this is not music television. There is no music in this show, other than background dubstep obnoxiousness. The show isn't even about musicians. I'm a n00b but apparently MTV used to play music videos. Here's what MTV should be playing... (not that they have to GET RID of Jersey Shore...)

Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything This video literally sums up every douchebag ever... plus victorian wigs

Trying to Be Happy

You can't force yourself to feel happy... Unless you have iTunes and a box of Annie's white cheddar bunnies. Then you get close.

Bibio - K is for Kelson
Clams Casino - Motivation [Lil B]
Lightwaves - Working All Day
Summer Heart - Please Stay
Freelance Whales - Girl That U Want

I Called It

My friend, in visiting my music blog for the first time, exclaimed "wow. too hipster to function." So I write this post self-consciously aware of accidental pretentiousness... But I am not ashamed of who I am, I guess. Here's a post where I tell you what bands will be the next Passion-Pit-like electronica buzz bands and I will say "I called it..."

Sounds a lot like the Chunk of Change EP, plus 90s references
Reptar - Stuck In My Id
Reptar - Context Clues

Space-agey in a Florence and the Machine kind of way, but with lasers
Purity Ring - Lofticries
Purity Ring - Ungirthed

They're Australian and a duo. Get over it.
Monarchy -
I Won't Let Go (Bag Raiders remix)
Monarchy - Gold in the Fire

In-between Times

It's almost summer and I might stay in Providence!! Great house on Williams, possibly a depressing job, Psychology classes. More importantly: Brown but without heavy work loads! LETS GET CRUNK

They're coming to Brown's Spring Weekend... gonna throw my bra...
Das Racist - Fashion Party (feat. Chairlift)

This band is going to be big, and I'm going to call them sell-outs. Heads up.
Reptar - Houseboat Babies

I'm in an Ivy League (circus.) NOT FUNNY
Gordon Voidwell - Ivy League Circus

I really need a summer job, or like, anything
The ACBs - Be Professional

Watching too much Friday Night Lights
Calexico / Iron & Wine - Dead Man's Will

A lil goofy... can't decide if it's too much
Martin Solveig - Ready 2 Go

私の友達

My friends at Brown are incredible. I love them so much. Here is what they're listening to:

Dani: "I'm kind of obsessed with the rock&rolley hardcore punk sound. It's a little bit grungier and heavier than the indie rock influenced punk that's coming out now (and that I also love), and it just energizes me and reminds of 80's hardcore punk, when hardcore was raw and dirty, just not as ridiculously fast. My fav."

Cloak/Dagger - Kamikazes
Cloak/Dagger - Dead Idols

Raillan: "I like music that tells a story, not necessarily with words but with the arrangements and textures of the song itself."

Tokyo Police Club - Wait Up (Boots of Danger) (DOM Remix)

Connan Mockasin - Megumi The Milkyway Above

Rémy: I am a new 'Tallest Man on Earth' convert, mostly because of this song. His voice reminds me of a folkier Frightened Rabbit plus a little something extra. It really comes down to the lyrics though -- the progression of each verse makes me melt. And the way he says, "Lilleeez." As for "Tonight I'm Fucking You," it's such an exemplar of assertive communication. (BAHAHAHAH - Lily)

The Tallest Man on Earth - The Gardner

Enrique Iglesias (feat Ludacris) - Tonight I'm Fucking You

Neon Gold

Neon Gold is the greatest music label ever. There is no argument here. These are the songs I obsessed over in 2010 from the Neon golden boys and girls.

Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
Everything, Everything - MY KZ, UR BF (Grum Remix)
The Knocks - Dancing with the DJ
Bag Raiders - Way Back Home

The Hepcat D's

The indie scene is pretty preoccupied with death, and that's fine with me. Hepcat philosophy majors may get too existential sometimes, but they also make tunes I appreciate. Here are some recent favorites bout the hepcat d's: death, dancing, and duds. (P.S. My current background is above. Save as that shit)

Death
BRAHMS - Subtext is Deadly
Baby Monster - Ultra Violence and Beethoven

Duds
Stepdad -
My Leather, My Fur, My Nails
Wiz Khalifa - Black and Yellow (Go Periscope Remix)

Dancing
Apples in Stereo -
Dance Floor
A-Trak - Ray Ban Vision
